The Devil Is In The Details

Posted in Uncategorized on July 15, 2011 by shmotorsny

First, we want to give a shout-out to our body guy, Jeff Dishaw, owner of Legacy Collision. He did a fantastic job on the paint.

The next step (or steps) will be all the detail work, like emblems, moldings, some lights, weather strips and a lot of other miscellaneous goods. There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel!

In Living Color!

Posted in Ash Mart Build on July 13, 2011 by shmotorsny

Jeff the painter sent some progress pictures of the car in the paint booth. It seems to be coming along quite nicely. Looking forward to the final reveal!

Well, the car finally made it to the body shop to be painted. It’s been a long, but productive few months. I hope to have a body shop update soon, but for now, enjoy the photos of the last leg of the journey!

Plugging Along…

Posted in Ash Mart Build with tags , , , on May 1, 2011 by shmotorsny

Well, this kit is proving to be quite a challenge to say the least!

Since our last blog post, the fuel filler door has been fitted and secured, the wheels and tires arrived, and the tail lights have been fiber glassed and installed, but I still have to bondo them in.

It’s been a steady, albeit slow process, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel! Many thanks to our customer for being patient and understanding!

Progress, Progress, Progress!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 19, 2011 by shmotorsny

Well, Jerry and I have been quite busy around here. The car is getting closer and closer to the point where it will be ready to paint. Here’s just a sampling of what we’ve done since the last post:

  • modified the trunk for the new trunk panel
  • installed the license plate lights and bolt retainers
  • fitted the hood
  • fitted the front fenders
  • laminated the trunk extension

All of this work involved extensive fiberglass work. We’re now getting ready to secure the front fenders to the donor car now that they’ve been fitted correctly.

Stay tuned!

Door Work

Posted in Ash Mart Build with tags , , , , , on February 8, 2011 by shmotorsny

This week, we custom fit the door skins to accommodate the door handles and laminated the original hood skin onto the kit’s hood that was cut from the front clip. The new fuel door was fitted to the quarter panel as well. We’ve also received the front grill and the white side marker lights.

Build Progress

Posted in Ash Mart Build on January 28, 2011 by shmotorsny

In spite of the cold temperatures as of late, the build marches on. The old quarter panels have been successfully cut off and the metal ground down to prepare for attaching the new quarter panels and the rear bumper.

Project Update

Posted in Ash Mart Build with tags , , , , , on January 11, 2011 by shmotorsny

In addition to mounting the Lambo doors, we’ve cut the skin off the hood, and cut the new hood out of the front section of the front clip. Our next step is to mount the new hood on to the donor car hood structure. After that, we will cut the quarter panels and rear sections from the donor car.

Project is Underway!

Posted in Ash Mart Build with tags , , , on December 30, 2010 by shmotorsny

Santa came a couple of days early and dropped off our donor car on December 23, 2010. We’re taking this 1997 Jaguar XK8 and turning into a beautiful replica of an Astin Martin Vanquish, aka Ashmart. This is just the first step in transforming an already great looking car into an even better looking, sleek roadster.

So far I’ve removed both front fenders, front fascia, wheel wells and hood. In preparation for installing the new front section, I cut out corresponding sections of the right and left supports. Stay tuned for more posts and more photos!
